A vital element at the heart of the ecosystem, a symbol of longevity, diversity, beauty, resilience in the face of attacks of all kinds, a source of inspiration for artists from all continents, the tree is also present in the imagination where its branches, but also its underground strength, nourish sacred texts, myths and secular literature.
The tree is the heart of an ecosystem bringing together animals, plants and fungi which depend partly or entirely on it, just as it can depend on them to reproduce and spread its seeds. The insect and the plant need each other to ensure their offspring. Part of these relationships between species escapes our gaze because they take place underground. The root system allows a tree to communicate with its neighbors.
The word "book" takes its origin from the Latin liber which also designates the interior part of the bark of a tree. A beautiful mise en abyme occurs in this opus: the books are in fact themselves supports for representing these trees which gave them life, transforming the rich collections of the National Library of France into a forest of paper.
