The new book from the Typologie Collections is dedicated to the camping tent. A common motif in rural landscapes and urban spaces, the tent is an omnipresent typology whose apparent simplicity is deceptive
Halfway between the architecture that we manipulate and the furniture that we inhabit, the tent covers numerous uses and brings together heterogeneous realities. Reminiscent of primitive huts, descended from military camps, leisure or makeshift shelter, precarious while being resistant, protective but porous, the tent is used in both marked and extreme environments.
An elementary assembly of high-performance materials, it is designed in the West and produced in South-East Asia. Even more than the mono-material objects studied in previous Typology reviews, this composite object allows us to become aware of the complex nature of the things that surround us
